What does the Independent Living Service do:

  • Takes all the employment responsibility whilst selecting with you the support staff we employ for you - You get the people you want. We recruit, train, supervise and pay them.
     

  • Provides a team leader who designs your support with you the way you want it manages your support workers with and/or for you.
     

  • Works with you to keep you and the support staff safe.
     

  • Makes sure you always have support through an on-call and contingency plan that meets your individual needs. As long as it is agreed as part of your support plan the Independent Living Service can enable you.
     

  • In your home (day and/or night) - with shopping, laundry, personal care and to look after your house, garden, pets, hobbies and interests.
     

  • In your community - with social, leisure, educational, volunteering or work activities.

  • On your holidays.
     

  • To manage your medication, finances, bills etc...

The Independent Living Support Workers can drive you in your car and/or    assist you to get around on public transport. They can give you as much or as little assistance as you require with accessing other services, getting help and advice (e.g. how to get a mobility car, contacting a social worker or health care professional, joining a club or activity run by another agency e.g. Age Concern, MIND or Mencap, planning an accessible holiday or a dinner party for your friends.
