The Independent Living Service

The ILS was established over 7 years ago when SIL realised that there was a gap in the Home Care Support sector for a domiciliary care agency which allowed the service user to be involved in the recruitment and management of a dedicated team but without the responsibility of being the employer.

We are now a 3* excellent rated home support agency and we provide support for people with high complex support needs, who select their own team of staff supported by a Team Leader.

Many of the people who are supported by us might otherwise be in nursing or residential care but, instead are able to remain within their own community.

The ILS will:

• Select a team of staff with you so that you get the people you want and we recruit, employ, train and supervise them.

• Provide a team leader who designs and manages your support with you the way you want it.

• Work with you to keep you and the support staff safe.

• Make sure you always have support through an on-call and contingency plan which meets your individual needs.

Also, provided it is agreed as part of your support plan, the ILS team can enable you to:

• Stay in your home (day and/or night) - with shopping, laundry, personal care and to look after your house, garden, pets, hobbies and interests.

• Remain in your community - with social, leisure, educational, volunteering or work activities.

• Go on your holidays

• Manage your medication / finances / bills etc

• Get around by driving you in your car and/or assisting you to get around on public transport.

The ILS team can give you as much or as little assistance as you require whether accessing other services, getting help and advice (such as how to get a motability car, contacting a social worker or health care professional) or joining a club or activity run by another agency (such as Age Concern, MIND or Mencap) or maybe planning an accessible holiday or a dinner party for your friends.
