This was a special AGM celebrating HCIL’s 10th
anniversary, so it was great to have such an excellent turn out, with faces
old and new.
The question time event was very skilfully chaired by trustee Elspeth
McPherson, and the politicians participated with good humour.
Our questioners rightly challenged some of the responses, and the
disabled comedian Laurence Clark was refreshingly forthright with his views
on some of the topics!
Judy Phillips Memorial Award
The Judy Phillips Memorial Award, given in memory of an excellent ILS
support worker who died tragically 3 years ago, went this year to Owen
Williams, who was presented with his award by Ian Bambrough who nominated
him. Well done Owen – this
recognition is very well deserved.
It is important to appreciate and acknowledge the commitment and skill of
our support workers, and this year an award was also given to the team of
support workers supporting Robert Tucker.
The winning team consisted of Mike Lynch and pictured below Ian
Watkin, Wayne Pocock and Gary Cook.
Continuing with the theme of recognising the contributions made by
individuals to HCIL, all the Values and Attitudes trainers, Neet Woodward,
Mandy Hamblin, David Hughes, and Lyndsey Murray were presented with a
certificate and a mug. They
have all worked hard to prepare and deliver really high quality training,
together with Yvie George, staff member.
Feedback has regularly been along the lines of ‘the best training
ever’. It doesn’t get better
than that!
Following refreshments Laurence Clark performed an hilarious comedy routine
which had many crying with laughter.
It is impossible to do it justice here, but I hope that the Courtyard
might be persuaded to book Laurence as everyone would have liked to have
heard a lot more from him.
Finally my thanks to Wendy and Gail from the staff team who worked extremely
hard to make our AGM a success. How will we follow it next year?!
